The Ultimate 4-Day Cabo Girls Trip: A Moms Getaway in Los Cabos
Dreams Los Cabos
Sometimes moms need a vacation where nobody asks them to find a missing shoe, cut someone’s food or settle an argument about whose turn it is.
This four-night girls’ trip to Cabo was exactly that for the five of us: three days of sunshine, whale watching, epic sunrises, great food, drinks and the kind of uninterrupted conversation that almost never happens at home.
This wasn't my first trip to Cabo. I had visited once before on an all-inclusive trip through my husband's work, and I fell in love with the destination almost immediately.
There is something about Los Cabos that feels unlike anywhere else I've traveled. The desert seems to tumble straight into brilliant blue water, dramatic rock formations rise out of the Pacific, and everything somehow feels both rugged and tropical at the same time. Every sunrise and sunset seems to paint the landscape a little differently.
Add whale season into the mix, and it's one of my favorite places I've ever visited. If you have the flexibility to travel between December and April, I truly think it's one of the best times to experience Cabo.

Why We Chose Cabo
The Arch of Cabo San Lucas
Cabo wasn't actually our first idea for this girls' trip.
We originally planned to spend a few nights in Key West. But once we started pricing accommodations during the middle of winter for five women who all wanted enough space to spread out—and ideally not share beds or sleep on pull-out couches—we quickly realized the cost was adding up.
To our surprise, an all-inclusive resort in Cabo was actually the more affordable option. Once we factored in that our accommodations, meals, drinks, and entertainment would all be included, it became an easy decision.
Getting there, however, was a complete disaster.
The travel day from hell
Because we had an early Monday morning flight, we drove to Chicago the night before and stayed at Hyatt Place Chicago/Midway using points. The plan was simple: wake up early, fly to Cabo and be at the resort by lunchtime.
About 30 minutes before boarding, we learned that fog was preventing our inbound plane from landing at Midway. The delay meant we would miss our connection—and there were no other flights that could get us to Cabo that day.
We spent approximately 15 hours sitting in Midway Airport before finally boarding a flight to Phoenix. We stayed there overnight and flew to Cabo the next morning.
Losing an entire night of a four-night moms’ trip was incredibly disappointing. Fortunately, Dreams Los Cabos was able to extend our stay by one night, and Southwest moved our return flight to the following day without charging us an additional fare.
It was not the start we wanted, but we were determined not to let one terrible travel day ruin the rest of the trip.
Where we stayed: Dreams Los Cabos
Dreams Los Cabos is an oceanfront, all-inclusive resort on the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Some of the finishes felt a little dated, but it was such a small drawback that it did not meaningfully affect our stay. The room service, on the other hand, was spectacular—especially on a trip where having food delivered without preparing it for anyone else felt like a luxury of its own.
Dreams Los Cabos Infinity Pool, Sunrise
What we loved
The huge oceanfront infinity pool
A swim-up bar with plenty of space in the water
A separate adults-only pool
Easy access to a beachfront bar and snack bar
Spacious rooms and excellent room service
Plenty of food options without needing to leave the property
The ability to watch whales from the resort beach during whale
The oceanfront infinity pool is the center of the resort. It was beautiful and never felt overly crowded. The adults-only pool offered a quieter alternative, although it did not have the same ocean view.
We thought the food options were great overall. Service could occasionally be slow, but we were sitting by the beach with nowhere we needed to be, so it was difficult to complain.
The biggest drawback
Finding five pool chairs or beach seats together was easily our biggest frustration. Guests claimed chairs early, which meant we had to get outside in the morning if we wanted a spot. This was especially challenging with a group of five; a couple would likely have had an easier time finding two open chairs.
We usually found seating on the beach instead, which ended up being perfect. We still had convenient access to the beachfront bar and snack bar, and we could watch for whales in the open ocean. Like most resorts in Cabo, the beach is not swimmable due to a strong surf.
Our four-night Cabo moms’ getaway itinerary
Monday: The day we were supposed to arrive
Instead of arriving in Cabo by lunchtime, we spent roughly 15 hours at Midway before flying to Phoenix for the night.
There is no inspirational travel lesson here. It was miserable, we were disappointed and we lost a precious vacation day. Sometimes travel goes badly even when you plan carefully.
Tuesday: We finally made it to Cabo
After flying from Phoenix to Cabo Tuesday morning, we checked into Dreams Los Cabos and did exactly what five exhausted moms needed to do: nothing complicated.
We explored the resort, found the beach and pool, ordered drinks and let the stress of the previous 24 hours slowly disappear. After such a chaotic start, simply sitting in the sun with nowhere else to be felt incredible.
Wednesday: Sunrise, beach, pool, and horseback riding
Sunrise on the Beach, Los Cabos
Wednesday was another resort day filled with beach time, drinks, food and uninterrupted conversation. The sunrises in Cabo are spectacular, and I made sure to sit on the beach every morning to enjoy it. Let’s be real - the “Mom Alarm Clock” never turns off, and I was up anyway.
I also treated myself to a horseback ride on the beach. It was one of those experiences I might have talked myself out of on a busy family trip, but on this vacation I could simply say yes and go.
I bought my kids the sweetest handmade bracelets from a local artist on the beach, personalized with their names. We all know, even on a kid-free vacation, moms are still going to find something to bring home for their children and I love supporting the locals rather than the more touristy stores.
Thursday: The San José del Cabo Art Walk
San Jose del Cabo Art Walk
On Thursday, we headed into San José del Cabo for shopping and the weekly Art Walk. The historic district fills with galleries, artists, boutiques and visitors on Thursday evenings during the Art Walk season.
The event currently takes place on Thursdays from November through June, but schedules can change, so verify the dates before building your itinerary around it. See current San José del Cabo Art Walk information.
After exploring and shopping, we had a fabulous dinner at Jazmin’s Restaurant.
One thing I've really come to appreciate is how different Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo feel from one another.
Cabo San Lucas has a lively, upbeat energy and is probably what most people picture when they think of Cabo. It's busy, vibrant, and understandably popular with vacationers looking for nightlife and entertainment.
Personally, though, I find myself drawn to San José del Cabo. I love its slower pace, beautiful art galleries, live music, and fantastic restaurants. It feels a little more relaxed and gives you a chance to experience another side of Los Cabos.
Friday: Cabo San Lucas, the Arch and whales
The next day, we went to the Cabo San Lucas Marina and walked along the waterfront. A flight attendant had told us that local boat operators wait near the docks and offer smaller, more affordable trips to the Arch.
He was absolutely right. There were multiple local operators available. We chose a licensed operator and arranged a private ride for the five of us. Life jackets were provided, and our captain followed the whale-viewing rules. We paid $20 per person.
This was actually my second time seeing whales in Cabo, and I don't think the experience will ever get old.
Whale breaching, Cabo San Lucas
During whale season, it feels like the entire coastline comes alive. We watched whales from the resort while drinking coffee in the mornings, saw them from the beach throughout the day, and then spent part of our boat ride simply following one incredible sighting after another.
What amazed me most was how comfortable the whales seemed around the boats. As long as captains follow responsible whale-watching guidelines, they often continue swimming, breaching, rolling, and slapping their tails as if the boats aren't even there. More than once we looked at each other wondering, "Did that really just happen?"
Watching these enormous animals surface just beyond our boat was one of those travel experiences that reminds you how incredible our world really is.
Los Cabos whale-watching season generally runs from December through April, although wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Check the current Los Cabos whale-watching guide.
What to Pack for an All-Inclusive Cabo Vacation
One of my favorite things about an all-inclusive vacation is how simple packing becomes. Most days are spent rotating between the pool, the beach, and dinner, so you really don't need nearly as much as you think.
I mostly lived in swimsuits, lightweight cover-ups, comfortable sandals, and a few easy dresses for dinner. I'd also recommend packing reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brim hat, polarized sunglasses, and a waterproof phone pouch if you plan on spending time on the water.
If you're visiting during whale season, don't forget a pair of binoculars if you already own them. We spotted whales from the resort beach almost every day, and having binoculars would have made those moments even more memorable.
Below I've linked the clothing and beach essentials I personally use and would pack again for this trip.
*My absolute favorite resort sandals: Bombas Women’s Friday Sandal
*My favorite casual coverup: Cupshe Beachside Coverup
*Dinner Outfits: Boho Maxi Dress, 2 Piece Summer Wide Leg Pant Set, Halter Maxi Beach Dress
*Favorite “Mom” Swimsuits….. because bikini’s ain’t happening: Women’s Tummy Control One Piece, DreamSculpt® Square Neck Tank Swimsuit and Sarong.
*Beach tote: Aloha Collection, Day Tripper Tote Bag
*Jewelry Organizer: Mele & Co Travel Jewelry Case
Was Dreams Los Cabos good for a moms’ getaway?
Yes. It gave us exactly what we wanted: an easy, all-inclusive vacation with beautiful views, good food, spacious rooms and enough resort amenities that we did not need to plan every hour.
It is not an adults-only resort, and parts of the property could use some updating. If your priority is ultra-modern design or complete silence, it may not be the right fit. But if you want an approachable all-inclusive resort with an excellent infinity pool, easy access to both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, and the option to book with Hyatt points, it offers tremendous value.
The honest truth about moms’ trips
This vacation was not perfect. We lost an entire day, slept in an unexpected city and arrived exhausted. But once we finally reached Cabo, it became exactly the reset we needed.
There is something different about sitting with friends when nobody is watching the clock for school pickup, checking a child’s plate or trying to finish a conversation between interruptions. We had time to laugh, eat slowly, watch the sunrise and remember that we are people outside of our jobs and our roles as moms.
We adore our families. We also needed those days away.
Both things can be true.
